How to Prevent Lip Zits
We live in a society that prefers to fix problems well after they’ve occurred. For instance, it has been known for quite some time that many of the causes of acne are controllable. A primarily simple carbohydrate diet is but one of the things to have been linked to acne outbreaks. Yet, people refuse to change their ways and the skin care giants continue to turn a healthy profit. If you visit any local store and browse their selection of skin products, you will find that none of them are designed to prevent acne. They’re instead intended to be used for treatment of the condition – a task which many of them still don’t perform to an optimal level. So this begs the question, what steps can one take to prevent pimples? Well, it comes down to what type of acne you are trying to prevent. There is no blanket technique to cure all forms. Bacterial variants of acne can be prevented by keeping your skin clean and exfoliated. Hormonal forms are much more difficult to treat as they require internal remedies. A common option for women is birth control pills, which can help regulate hormonal activity and thus lessen the frequency of breakouts. When it comes to lip zits, the underlying problem is usually bacteria. Our mouths happen to come into contact with a number of foreign objects on a regular basis. Things like eating utensils, toothbrushes, and various foods are just some that come to mind. All of these things can transport bacteria that can eventually cause a breakout. The problem usually erupts on a small scale, and before the person even notices, their face beings to breakout uncontrollably, without them being able to definitively point out the cause of the lip zits. Acne is much more frustrating to treat than it is to prevent. Just ask those who have been battling breakouts for some time. A common motif in their stories should become apparent – that acne tends to intrude during the worst times. It all boils down to whether or not you want to become proactive in caring for your skin. You can only be negligent for so long, and when the time comes, your skin will fight back.
We’ve all developed some quirky behaviors from our childhood. Some of us grew out of them well before adulthood, while others of us continue to struggle with them to this day. One of the biggest culprits when it comes to a zit on the lip is a lip touching habit. Many people unknowingly touch their mouth throughout the day, often with the same hands that they just handled a sales receipt with or a dirty screwdriver. These behaviors go by unnoticed, and then we wonder where that pesky zit sprung up from. If you’ve ever caught yourself doing this, you need to become a bit more attentive and try to put a stop to the habit. You could be asking for a new zit on the lip everytime you have a slip up. You can always tell you friends or family members to get your attention when the habit gets the best of you.
Most of us think we practice good hygiene. However, this goes beyond showering regularly and keeping your teeth clean. When’s the last time you replaced your toothbrush? A majority of you probably don’t have the slightest idea. A several month old toothbrush that has been allowed to accumulate bacteria can easily cause a lip zit. It does, after all, make contact with your lips as you are brushing your teeth. So does that toothpaste, which probably contains several skin irritants that can also trigger a lip zit. The latest to be enveloped in controversy is sodium lauryl sulfate, a detergent that is responsible for the foaming effect in toothpaste. It is known to dry the skin and cause irritation. Remarkably, you can find this ingredient in engine degreaser. Now, you obviously shouldn’t stop brushing your teeth for the sake of preventing a zit on lip. That wouldn’t be very smart. What you can do is search your local store for toothpastes that lack this ingredient. An online search should prove helpful in this endeavor. Alternatively, you can rinse your lips very thoroughly after brushing to prevent any potential zit on lip. Then there is the issue of fluoride in toothpaste, which yet again, most people don’t have a clue about. Fluoride, while is valuable in its ability to rematerialize teeth and prevent decay, is a skin irritant. So there is an inherent risk in developing acne when ingesting fluoride. Again, your options here are limited. You can rinse more attentively or switch to a fluoride free toothpaste. If your home’s water is already fluoridated, there shouldn’t be much concern over tooth decay. As you might imagine, this subject is the center of controversy, so we won’t touch on it too much. If you are unsure about what to do, consult your dentist. Your dental health is much more important that a zits on lip problem.
Another unsuspecting culprit is lip wear. If you routinely wear lip balm, or lipstick, it could be to blame for your acne. These products contain a number of ingredients that may aid the development of zits on lip. The only way to know for sure is to stop using the product for a week or so. If you notice the acne clearing, than the lip wear is most likely the problem. Whatever you do, be sure to resist the urge to go a zit popping spree. The zit lip will return with a vengeance. Be gentle in caring for these lesions and you can count that they will clear faster than you expected. Good luck!
